Description: The Ontario Geological Survey (OGS) has generated an attributed GIS-based, seamless map of the Paleozoic geology of southern Ontario, based primarily on 1:50 000 scale maps produced over the past 33 years. Paleozoic geology map data are provided as ESRI® ArcInfo® coverages in geographic co-ordinate system NAD83, decimal degrees. The map data set consists of 5 coverages capturing information on Paleozoic geological units; linear features, such as faults and contacts; point features, such as quarry, drill hole and outcrop locations; as well as an index containing references to all published OGS Paleozoic maps. Also included is a point coverage hyperlinked to photos depicting key sections of each of the Paleozoic rock formations found across southern Ontario. Other information provided includes a user document and readme file which explain the GIS process, coverages and metadata, as well as a “Getting Started” section. The data are useful for many purposes, including groundwater and surface water studies, other environmental studies, geotechnical investigations, land-use planning and mineral exploration. <<REFERENCE>> Armstrong, D.K. and Dodge, J.E.P. 2007. La Commission géologique de l'Ontario (CGO) a produit une carte sans couture de la géologie paléozoïque du sud de l'Ontario, basée principalement sur des cartes à l'échelle 1:50 000 produites au cours des 33 dernières années. Les données cartographiques de la géologie paléozoïque sont fournies sous forme de couvertures ESRI® ArcInfo® dans le système de coordonnées géographiques NAD83, degrés décimaux. Le jeu de données cartographiques se compose de 5 couvertures contenant des informations sur les unités géologiques paléozoïques, les éléments linéaires, tels que les failles et les contacts, les éléments ponctuels, tels que les carrières, les trous de forage et les affleurements, ainsi qu'un index contenant les références de toutes les cartes paléozoïques publiées par l'OGS. Elle comprend également une couverture ponctuelle avec des liens hypertextes vers des photos illustrant des sections clés de chacune des formations rocheuses paléozoïques présentes dans le sud de l'Ontario. Les autres informations fournies comprennent un document utilisateur et un fichier readme qui expliquent le processus SIG, les couvertures et les métadonnées, ainsi qu'une section "Getting Started". Les données sont utiles à de nombreux égards, notamment pour les études sur les eaux souterraines et les eaux de surface, d'autres études environnementales, les études géotechniques, l'aménagement du territoire et la prospection minière.
