Geoprocessing service settings: Sharing

To facilitate the discovery of geoprocessing services you create, you may want to share your service in ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS. If you are signed in to your ArcGIS Online or Portal for ArcGIS organization from ArcMap when you publish the geoprocessing service, you can use the Sharing tab within the Service Editor to specify to which audience your service will be available.

Note:

You can share your services with groups within your organization, everyone in your organization, and even people outside your organization. However, keep in mind that ultimately people will only be able to use your service if they have access to your GIS Server site. For example, if the site is running within your own intranet, sharing with Everyone will not necessarily make your geoprocessing service available outside your organization. Users outside your organization will be able to find your geoprocessing service item, but will not be able to access the service itself unless you configure the GIS Server site to be publicly facing. Contact your IT department to make this possible.

Parameter Explanation

Share your service with

You can share your service at four levels:

  • My Content will keep the service link private to your account in the organization. The service will be inaccessible to other members of the organization and clients on the web.
  • If you choose to share to your organization, the service will be available to all members signed in to your portal or ArcGIS Online organization.
  • Everyone (public) makes your geoprocessing service public. If you are sharing to ArcGIS Online, this means anybody can access and see your service, including users on the web. If you are sharing to Portal for ArcGIS, anyone with access to the portal website can access your service, even if they are not signed in to the portal.
  • Members of these groups allows any member of the selected group to access your service.
